KEARNEY MANSION & MUSEUM HISTORY

The home of M. Theo Kearney was constructed between 1900 and 1903 in the center of his 5,000 acre Fruit Vale Estate.  Finished at the turn of the 20th century, the Kearney Mansion is a Victorian extravaganza in French Renaissance style.  Today, the historic site museum exhibits 50% of the original furnishings; featuring ornate furnishings, elaborate moldings, and French wallpapers, the home was intended as a caretaker's residence, but Kearney died before the main house could be completed.

The restored home of M. Theo Kearney, the “Raisin King of California,” tells the story of Central California agriculture, a glimpse into the life of California's wealthy; its surrounding gardens, designed by landscape designer Rudolph Ulrich, are a gorgeous composition as well. They include picnicking facilities and play areas.

The Mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, just celebrated its centennial anniversary.  It has been administered by the Fresno County Historical Society since 1962.

A wonderful gift shop offers Fresno County historical literature as well as Kearney momentos. Park entrance fee is waived at the gate for Mansion visitors, call or visit website for current pricing and hours of operation. 7160 W. Kearney Blvd., Fresno, (559) 441-0862.
